PIRAEUS-POROS ROUTE WITH FLYING CAT AND AERO HIGHSPEED

Flying cats and Aero HighSpeed depart daily from the port of Piraeus for Poros, which only take passengers and no cars.

During the day there are several routes, depending on the time period.

Journey time is approximately 1 hour with flying cat 4, 1 hour and 20 minutes with flying cat 5 & 6 and about 1 hour and 5 minutes for the Aero HighSpeed.

As soon as you reach Poros, you cross over to Galata with the boats within 5 minutes.

CATAMARAN "SPEED CAT 1" OF ALPHA LINES

From the port of Piraeus, the Catamaran "Speed Cat 1" of Alpha Lines departs daily for Poros, which only takes passengers and no cars.

"Speed Cat 1" runs the route "Piraeus - Poros". The duration of the trip is about 1 hour.

As soon as you reach Poros, you cross over to Galata with the boats within 5 minutes.

BY FERRY BOATS

From the port of Piraeus there are Ferry boats for Poros, which take in addition to passengers, cars and mopeds, with a journey duration of about 2 hours and 30 minutes.

With intermediate stations the Ferry boat first approaches the port of Aegina, then the port of Methana and finally reaches Poros.

BY YOUR CAR

If you have your own car or have rented one, then you can easily get from Athens to Galatas, an area located opposite Poros, in about 2 hours and 15 minutes.

Following the Attiki Road and then the Athens - Corinth National Road, immediately after the Isthmus, go right at exit 10 (Corinth - Epidaurus) and immediately after that turn left, under the bridge, on the road it leads to Loutra tis Orea Eleni and continues to Epidaurus.

Drive for about 45 minutes and reach the junction for Epidaurus. A little before you will see signs to Poros or Spetses. At the intersection go right and immediately after turn left, under the bridge.

Continue on this road, meeting the "Vassilopoulos" supermarket on your right. A little further down from the supermarket, you meet other signs at another intersection, at which you turn diagonally left at the sign pointing "towards Poros" and follow the coastal road.

After about 25 minutes you will reach the settlement of Agios Apostolos, where you will come across a junction with signs, right for Poros and left for Methana. At this intersection you will follow the route to the right for Poros and after about 10 minutes you will reach Galatas.

The road you are following is an extension of the national road, quite good and for the total route from Athens to Galatas, at an average speed, you need about 2 hours and 15 minutes.

From Galata you cross with your car towards Poros with the small ferry boats. Small ferry departures are every 30 minutes, full and half hours.

The transport from Galata to Poros takes place:

A. By boats around the clock. Duration 5 minutes and departures every 15' minutes, from 06:00 to 24:00 and every 30' minutes from 24:00 to 06:00.
B. The departures of the small ferry boats from the quay of Galata are every 30 minutes, full and half hours.

WE RECOMMEND IN POROSActivities to spend your time in the island

First of all, it's worth taking a walk around the port of Poros island, while visiting the quaint small shops, that sell everything from local products to clothes, sitting on the front beach and on the paved streets above it.

Visit the Archaeological Museum of Poros with exhibits of findings from the excavations of the Temple of Poseidon, Ancient Troezen, the Royal Tombs of Magoula and other antiquities from Trizinia place.

Continuing on you can take a walk to the Historical Clock Tower of Poros which dominates the highest peak of the hill, amongst pine trees and prickly pears. From there the view of the harbor and the opposite coast is excellent.

After Sinikismos location and following the winding road that follows, you can visit the small Chapel dedicated to the Virgin Mary, located in a beautiful ravine with platanus trees and running waters.

Continuing from the small Chapel you will meet the location Palatia, where is the Temple of Poseidon and the place where the ancient orator Demosthenes drunk the poison. From this Doric Temple (6th century) today remains only minimal findings.

It's worth to visit the Monastery of Zoodochos Pigi (18th century), built on a green slope, depicting an example of the islanders monastery architecture, combining tranquility with simplicity and charm.

After Gefiraki place, located in Progimnastirio location, continuing left you will reach the Russian Dockyard, designated as a historical monument due to its great architectural and historical interest.

Poros island has got a diverse and beautiful natural environment that can be a paradise for hikers and nature admirers. There are many paths and old trails between the pines, and other plants that you can follow.

For those of you who are not in the mood to walk, you can explore Poros island by your car or your motorbike, quickly and easily, since the road network on the island is in a good condition with no problems.

Those who have got their own boat can make the circumnavigation of Poros, discovering unique bays, where they can swim or go fishing to the rocks or go snorkeling on the rich fishing grounds of the island.

At Askeli and Neorio villages you will find organized water sports centers, where you can work out while you entertain yourselves doing all kinds of water sports or you can also take some skiing lessons.

Also, apart from the water sports, you can exersice by rowing or kayaking in the Nautical clubs of N.O.P.T. and N.A.T. Finally there is the stadium of the Naval School of Poros where you can run and exercise.

In the beautiful island of Poros, those who love nature can ride a horse on the scenic and spacious mountains or scuba dive to experience the rich and colorful images of the beautiful underwater world of Poros.

For those who love watching all the new movies, you will find that the summer cinema "Diana" is operating and has got a beautiful terrace surrounded by flowers, and where you can watch all the good winter movies.

At times the island hosts a lot of events in the Cultural Centre of the Municipality, also concerts are being held up in various parts of the island as well as exhibitions at the Exhibition center of Poros, next to the cinema "Diana".
